Okra
The geographical origin of okra is disputed, with supporters of South Asian, Ethiopian and West African origins. Supporters of a South Asian origin point to the presence of its proposed parents in that region. Grown in tropical and warm temperate climates, it is in the same plant family as hibiscus and cotton. Its mild flavor can be compared to eggplant, though the texture is somewhat unusual.
